Takeda is a Global Leader in Pharmaceutical Medicines

In March 2009, Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited and its wholly-owned subsidiary, Takeda Pharmaceuticals North America, Inc. announced the establishment of Takeda Canada Inc. The new Canadian company, in effect, expanded Takeda’s North American presence into the world’s eighth largest pharmaceutical market.

Founded in 1781, the business initially sold traditional Japanese and Chinese medicines. Over the years, Takeda developed into the largest pharmaceutical company in Japan and one of the global leaders of the industry.

Takeda Canada is headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario, one of the top three biotech areas in North America. Takeda Canada filed its first New Drug Submission (NDS) with the Canadian Health Authority last year. Down the road the company will specialize in medicines from Takeda’s portfolio of primary care and specialty products. The company provides medicines for a wide range of therapeutic areas that include diabetes, cardiovascular disease, central nervous system disorders, gastroenterology, bone and joint disorders, chronic kidney disease/anemia and gynecological disorders.

Canada’s highly skilled workforce and its modern healthcare system provide an attractive environment for Takeda’s global expansion, according to Daaron Dohler, General Manager, Takeda Canada, Inc. “Our aim is to become a company that contributes to progress in medicine and to society as a whole. Establishing Takeda in Canada with its thriving biotechnology industry that fuels pharmaceutical companies’ growth, will bring us one step closer.”
